Heinemann Opens New Shop at Berlin Airport

Heinemann has opened its Duty Free & Travel Value Shop in the newly launched Terminal 2 at Berlin Brandenburg Airport today.

The shop of the Hamburg-based Travel Retailer is 768 square meters in size and perfectly located in the plaza behind the security checks: The path of all departing passengers leads right through it, and arriving travelers also pass through it automatically before leaving the security area.

Gebr. Heinemann designed the whole approx. 1,400-square-meter space of the plaza together with the airport. The concept is open, with all areas merging directly into one another. In addition to Heinemann’s Duty Free & Travel Value Shop, there are three gastronomic concepts and another shop.

In the Duty Free Shop, passengers can access Heinemann’s full range of products. Another highlight is regional products and brands – such as Berliner Luft and Berliner Brandstifter in the spirits category and Knalle popcorn, Felicitas chocolate and Ohde marzipan in the confectionery category.

The strong regional focus is also reflected in the design of the shop: the back walls are completely sprayed with graffiti. Gebr. Heinemann engaged graffiti artists from Berlin, especially for this.

The graffiti motifs pick up on the category of goods on the furniture right in front. For example, a martini glass is emblazoned above the liquor, tobacco, and confectionery section, a lady in sunglasses can be seen above the accessories area, and colorful motifs – such as a bear and a plane dropping smarties – adorn the children´s corner.

Another design element is two garden swings near the tasting bar, which invite you to linger. In the new shop, Heinemann also serves a sustainability aspect: much of the furniture was already in use at other locations.
