Hobby Lobby to Open First NYC Store

One of the largest arts-and-crafts retailers in the country is set to open its very first store in New York City next year.

The Oklahoma-based retail chain has more than 900 stores and despite never entering the United States’ largest market before, is opening their first NYC location in Staten Island at The Crossing in Staten Island, according to the brand’s real estate broker Katz & Associates.

“We are actively seeking locations in all of the other boroughs and expect to have more exciting news soon,” said Brian Katz, CEO of Katz & Associates.

Hobby Lobby’s presence in other key parts of the New York Metro area has been expanding for years, with 10 stores in locations such as Paramus and Iselin in New Jersey and Commack and Bay Shore on Long Island.

The brand and its inventory of more than 70,000 crafting and home décor products has fashioned itself as an important anchor in power centres nationwide. This year, the company has raised its minimum wage for employees to $18.50, much ahead of the New York State minimum made of $13.20.
