The Hudson’s Bay flagship department store, located at 585 Ste-Catherine Street West in Downtown Montreal will include a downsize of its retail aspect.
The plans will see the Hudson’s Bay store, which currently occupies an area of 655,000sq ft downsize to around 295,000sq ft of retail space, spanning five storeys. The back of the building will be demolished, making way for a new 25 storey office building.
The proposed, smaller store format is in line with Hudson’s Bay’s newly updated strategy that will see the brand integrate its physical retail with an expanded online presence. This strategy will see the introduction of an online marketplace for third-party brands alongside Hudson’s Bay’s own retail offerings. As part of the plans, The Room – which currently has stores located in Hudson’s Bay stores in Toronto and Vancouver, could be added to the Montreal location.
The proposal is currently being evaluated by Montreal City Council this week.
