One year and four months after opening its first physical store in Mexico, the Swedish giant Ikea has started the countdown to open the doors of what will be its second establishment in the national market and also its landing in the interior of the country.
As anticipated at the beginning of 2021 by FashionNetwork.com, the city of Puebla has been chosen by Ikea to advance in Mexico, also opting for the Vía San Ángel shopping centre. Now, the Scandinavian company confirms that the store will open its doors on 11 August.
“At Ikea we are very happy to continue taking firm steps in the development of our business in Mexico,” said the Stockholm-based brand, when announcing the opening news. Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Manager of Ikea Mexico, was grateful to all those involved in the project.
The brand new Ikea store in Puebla will have an area of more than 11,000sq m; initially, the company assured that within the facilities there would be a restaurant with capacity for 380 people, although the number could have been modified.
After a first debut in the country through e-commerce, Ikea raised the shutters of its first physical store in Mexican territory on 8 April 2021 inside the Encuentro Oceanía shopping centre, in Mexico City, where it has 230,000sq m, three floors and markets more than 7,000 products.
