IKEA to Open 50 Small-Format Stores Globally

The new store format is part of the brands ambition to become more accessible to a wider range of customers.

IKEA currently operates more than 420 stores in 52 countries across the globe, the brands huge, rural warehouse locations, set up to best showcase the items that are on sale have become a key iconic setting that customers have come to know and love. However, the brand is concerned now with opening a variety of different store formats that are accessible to a wider range of customers.

Jon Abrahamsson Ring, Chief Executive of Brand commented: “It’s never going to be that we go back to only opening big stores. It will be a mix of formats, including smaller stores closer to where people live or work or move.” Although no details regarding the new stores have yet been revealed, they are likely to include such elements as “kitchen planning studios” and innovative services such as furniture rental.

The new smaller-format stores are expected to open in a number of major cities across the globe in Europe, Russia, North Americas, Asia and Oceania.
