The largest IKEA retailer, Ingka Group has opened the first IKEA store in the southern state of Karnataka.

After launching IKEA e-commerce in the area last year, the omni-channel retailer now brings the physical shopping experience closer to its customers. The new IKEA store in Bengaluru is part of Ingka Group’s recently announced EUR 3bn investment to accelerate its expansion worldwide before the end of next year.

The newest IKEA store is located in Nagasandra in Bengaluru – the state capital of Karnataka and home to around 10 million people. Covering around 42,000sq m and employing more than 1,000 co-workers, it will offer around 7,000 products that reflect local home furnishing needs. The store is connected to the Nagasandra metro station and will offer services such as remote planning, personal shopper, and click & collect at the store to provide a seamless shopping experience.

“India is a long-term commitment for us and today’s opening is an important step in getting closer to our customers in this part of the country. As online sales are growing fast, our stores remain one of our biggest strengths. Bringing the best of both physical and online retailing here in India and around the world is our way forward,” says Tolga Öncü, Retail Operations Manager, Ingka Group.
