IntercityHotel Opens in Dortmund

Largest hotel in the city opens in the historic Dortberghaus

Comfort, design and sustainable mobility: Dortmund City Councilor Ludger Wilde opened the IntercityHotel Dortmund with a ceremony today. Centrally located between the station forecourt and the city center, the hotel is the largest hotel in the city with 231 rooms, five conference rooms, a restaurant and a bistro lounge with bar and terrace. The interior of the IntercityHotel Dortmund shines in the design of the Italian architect and designer Matteo Thun. With the included FreeCityTicket, guests can use public transport free of charge and explore the city with its leisure, cultural and shopping opportunities in an environmentally friendly manner.

The Hamburg-based B&L Group is responsible for restoring and adapting the monument to its new use.

“We are very pleased that the listed building is now going into operation,” says City Councilor Ludger Wilde. “The so-called Dortberghaus has retained its classic character after its core renovation as an IntercityHotel and has become a real eye-catcher again. The proximity to the main train station alone makes it a first address for the guests of our city and the new hotel also evaluates the entrance gate to the city center in terms of urban development Dortmund is attracting – also through such investments.”

Christian Kaschner, Managing Director of IntercityHotel GmbH, adds: “Dortmund is much more than just an industrial location, but also a university location, a service center, a place where art, culture and sport live. The city is therefore an ideal location for IntercityHotel. We would like to thank the city, but especially our partner the B&L Group for the usual good cooperation on what is now our tenth joint hotel project.”

“The design and implementation of the building project under the requirements of monument protection was a challenge that we took on with passion,” says Thorsten Testorp, Managing Partner of the B&L Group. “The conversion as a hotel fully exploits the potential of this timeless architectural classic in the best walking area and increases the attractiveness of Dortmund’s city center through its revitalization.”

“I am really looking forward to finally welcoming the first guests to the IntercityHotel Dortmund. In the immediate vicinity are all important cultural institutions and shopping opportunities, but of course also green islands of tranquility. The included FreeCityTicket creates mobility all along the line: it allows our guests to use all public transport in the city free of charge,” adds Petra Bantle, General Manager IntercityHotel Dortmund.

The IntercityHotel Dortmund is the brand’s third hotel in the Ruhr area, alongside the hotels in Duisburg and Essen. With all important transport connections in the immediate vicinity, the IntercityHotel Dortmund is the perfect starting point for both business and leisure trips.
