Located in Aoyama, one of Tokyo’s upscale shopping districts, the boutique houses the brand’s newly-launched IM MEN menswear line.
The retail space was previously occupied by the house’s former Issey Miyake Men collection, which is now discontinued. Occupying the ground floor unit of a 1980s building, the space has been revitalised but still sees the original design of Japanese architect Shiro Kuramata largely intact.
One side of the boutique displays a steel cable strung along the wall combined with a moveable clothing rack and an elongated window display unit which presents pieces of the IM MEN line. At the far end of the boutique, a small counter with two metal stools stands ready to greet guests.
The store stocks pieces from the Flat Man series which comprises of outwear and pants, all made with new fabric that contains lightweight and wrinkle-resistant polyester and made in an environmentally friendly way.
