The brand hopes that the new centre would help overcome the challenges caused by the UK leaving the EU.
The new comes after JD Sports bosses have commented that the impact of Brexit has been ‘considerably worse’ than they feared. The distribution centre would be opened in mainland Europe and would allow the brand to side-step tariff costs and disruption.
The opening of the new warehouse would not lead to the closure of its Rochdale site but could mean a ‘transfer’ of jobs to the new warehouse.
Peter Cowgill, Executive Chairman, commented: “The new system and red tape just slows down efficiency. The freedom of movement and obstacles are quite difficult at the moment. I don’t see that regulatory paperwork easing much in the short term.”
