Jeddah reveals revamp project

The new waterfront project will see pedestrian pathways and cycle tracks installed to create more green spaces and parks.

A new SR229M scheme to upgrade the city’s waterfront area has been announced in Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The project, in Saudi Arabia’s second largest city, will stretch along 2.8km and see 180,000sq m redeveloped as part of the Kingdom Vision 2030 and Cities Humanization Initiative, which is aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and increasing the amount of green spaces and parks.

The work will last for two and a half years, according to a report on the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA), and will include re-paving roads, while squares, pedestrian pathways and cyclists’ corridors will be made. Alongside all of this there will also be the creation of green spaces, tree planting, playgrounds and fountains as well as sandy beaches for swimmers and investment sites.

Jeddah Municipality has a commitment to increasing green spaces in Jeddah through garden and reforestation projects throughout the province.
