John Lewis reveals next stage of opening plan

The next move from John Lewis as it attempts to get all of its stores open is to re-open doors to ten more department stores, which include one in Wales, one in Scotland and crucially, its flagship on Oxford Street.

The company has announced that its stores in Basingstoke, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Chester, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Stratford and the Trafford Centre will open their doors on 13 July, with its flagship on Oxford Street opening a few days later on 16 July, this is due to the increased size of the store as a bit more time is needed to implement the necessary measures before re-opening.

“We are learning as we go and tweaking our approach to give our customers and partners the best possible experience,” John Lewis Partnership Customer Service Executive Director Berangere Michel said. “Feedback from customers is that they really enjoy being able to test and try out products such as tablets, mattresses and shoes, all in a safe environment, as well as asking our expert partners for advice.” With all of its re-openings, the business has introduced multiple social distancing measures to ensure a safe shopping environment; these include reduced amounts of entrances and exits, a maximum number of customers in each store at any one time and protective screens at checkouts.
