Tata Starbucks is planning to launch 1,000 stores in India by 2028, the equivalent of one new store opening every three days.
The expansion plan focuses on training local partners to work with the brand, creating new locations with advanced customer experiences and promoting Indian-origin coffee to Starbucks customers worldwide.
To reach its goal of 1,000 stores, the joint venture will increase its staff to around 8,600 partners; expand drive-thru locations, airport cafes and its network of 24-hour stores – along with entering Tier 2 and 3 cities.
According to Starbucks, India is one of its most important markets as it predicted to become the world’s third-largest by 2030. Starbucks first entered in India in 2012, via a 50/50 joint venture with local distributor Tata Consumer Products. The brand currently operates about 400 stores across 54 cities.
“Over the past 11 years, the India market has grown to become one of Starbucks’ fastest-growing markets in the world,” said Laxman Narasimhan, CEO of Starbucks.
