Korea retail sales decline in March amid the pandemic

Retail sales in South Korea have fallen in March as people are refraining from visiting traditional brick-and-mortar stores amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The decrease came as offline stores suffered a nearly twenty percent decrease in their sales as South Koreans refrained from visiting crowded places or having face-to-face contact amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

It marked the steepest on-year decline since the ministry started compiling such data in June 2016. Sales from department stores especially dipped 40.3 percent over the cited period due to weak demand for fashion items.
