Lidl Debuts New Store Concept in Belgium

The grocery retailer has opened their newly renovated store in Lokeren with a new store concept that promotes shoppers to discover several ‘eating worlds.’

The new store has a much lighter and warmer atmosphere with the use of wooden furniture and a completely new layout. By changing the typical shopping route, Lidl hopes to inspire their customers to explore different cuisines and ways of eating.

The ‘dining world’ is located just after the entrance and provides customers with a number of fresh ingredients needed to prepare lunch or dinner, including fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and poultry and vegetarian and vegan produce. ‘The Kitchen of Lidl’ intends to inspire shoppers with a selection of recipes available whilst a refrigerator is filled with quick salads, freshly-made meals and smoothies for those shoppers looking to grab a quick meal and go. There’s also a fresh bakery, health nut corner and a fresh orange press.

“We notice that customers have been in a hurry in recent years and don’t always feel like spending a lot of time on the necessary groceries. Still, they like to eat fresh and healthy food. With this new test concept we want to make shopping efficient, but pleasant and above all inspire our customers,” commented Isabelle Colbrandt, a Spokesperson for Lidl.

The company has stated that they will first test the concept before making any decisions about rolling it out to other locations.
