Meijer Sets Store Concept Opening Date

The Midwest retailer will unveil a grocery concept, called Meijer Grocery, on 26 January, with stores in southeast Michigan’s Orion Township and Macomb Township.

The new banner is the retailer’s first new format since it introduced a neighbourhood market small format concept in August 2018. Meijer Grocery stores will range from 75,000sq ft to 90,000sq ft, and be focused on simplifying the customer shopping experience. The stores are designed for convenience and ease — parking, for example, will wrap around a singular corner entrance to maximize the number of parking spaces near the door.

In addition, local brands will be featured across departments, staying true to the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses, the retailer said. Meijer Grocery stores will also offer the same saving and shopping technology customers as Meijer supercentres, including shop and scan, home delivery and pickup.

“By opening Meijer Grocery stores, we’re introducing a new way for our customers to shop that provides convenience, value and the great quality our customers have always come to expect from Meijer,” stated Rick Keyes, President and CEO, Meijer. “Our customers’ needs are always evolving, and we’re committed to meeting them where they are. That’s why we’re excited to share this new Meijer experience with the Orion and Macomb Township communities.”
