Melbourne Retail to Remain Shut

The majority of retail stores and restaurants are expected to remain shut until at least October.

Daniel Andrews has announced that the government intends an eased ending of lock down despite many people hoping for a faster return to pre-Covid across the high street. A ‘roadmap’ has been announced which includes four steps to allow freer movement as well as retail and restaurants reopening their doors.

Step one and step two are associated with people being able to leave their homes again while step three allows small groups of around 10 people to meet in an outdoor setting and five meeting indoors. Step four will only be introduced when there have been no new cases of coronavirus for 14 days and this step will see the return of indoor dining.

A number of retailers are worried about the effects of this plan with some already having been in lock down for 13 weeks. Some are even going as far to call it a ‘death sentence’.
