Metro Plus Lands in Quebec

The 31,425sq ft store is the fifth to be operated by the Thibeault family and forms part of a broader commercial development being undertaken by the family.

The upcoming development will also incorporate one of Metro’s other key formats, a Jean Coutu health and beauty store. One of the most notable additions to the Metro Plus format is the bank of handwashing sinks at the entrance, reflecting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new supermarket further evolves Metro’s ‘Innovation’ format programme. This is the blueprint for the retailer’s larger supermarket developments in Quebec, including new stores and remodels. Competition continues to intensify in the province, from both conventional and discount formats and Metro’s focus on added-value services and local sourcing will help it to engage the community and build shopper loyalty, given the importance of these elements.

The ‘Plus’ designation indicates that the store features Metro’s full-service supermarket offer. This includes an enhanced focus on fresh foods. This is brought to life within the produce department which features local and seasonal products, fresh-cut fruit, and a “veggie” zone with a selection of alternative products. The bakery has a wide variety of artisanal and local products, including from Metro’s Première Moisson bakery chain.
