Confirmation of the 7000 job cuts has been announced as part of the company’s efforts to transform the business.
Steps to streamline the business both at stores and management levels have led to the company having to make a number of restructuring changes in recent months. Today, the brand has announced that it will embark on a multi-level consultation programme which is expected to result in a reduction of 7000 roles over the next 3 months.
The departures will include roles from the central support centre, regional management and their UK stores with a high proportion expected to be through voluntary departures and early retirement. The streamlining programme has been announced as an important step in delivering their cost savings programme.
Concurrently, Marks and Spencer are expected to create a number of new jobs as they invest in online fulfilment, their new ambient food warehouse and reshaping their store portfolio over the rest of the year.
