Saudi Arabia’s leading cinema chain, Muvi Cinemas, has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with IMAX Corporation.
This agreement will see the installation of four new IMAX with Laser systems across the Kingdom. The new systems will be located in Riyadh, Jeddah’s Mall of Arabia and Dhahran, marking the first IMAX installation in the latter city. Three of these new locations are expected to be operational by the end of 2024, with the final installation slated for completion in 2025.
IMAX currently operates 10 locations in Saudi Arabia and has plans to open an additional 22, including the four covered by the new agreement with Muvi Cinemas. This expansion aligns with IMAX’s strategic vision to significantly increase its presence in the Saudi market, rapidly becoming a key player in the global cinema industry. The company estimates the potential for at least 50 IMAX locations nationwide.
The partnership with Muvi Cinemas, the first home-grown cinema brand in Saudi Arabia, underscores IMAX’s commitment to collaborating with leading exhibitors to enhance the cinematic experience. Established in 2019 and headquartered in Riyadh, Muvi Cinemas has quickly risen to become the market leader in screen count within the Kingdom. This rapid growth reflects the increasing demand for premium movie-going experiences in Saudi Arabia.
