The Saudi home-grown cinema brand is launching Muvi Studios and wants to make world-class original Arabic movies.
Saudi Arabia’sMuvi Cinemas is launching its own studio to boost home-grown and Egyptian theatrical film production.
Muvi Cinemas is the country’s largest theatre operator and said Saudi Arabia is “the world’s hottest growth market for original movie production and theatre box office revenue”. It has seen strong performance from Arabic language content since movie theatres were reopened in the Kingdom.
Muvi Studios will have a major focus on developing both Saudi and Egyptian productions for the Saudi public with a focus on films for the big screen. Saudi film veteran Faisal Baltyuor, formerly CEO of the Saudi Film Council, has been appointed as CEO of Muvi Studios.
Muvi Cinemas Chief Executive Adon Quinn said: “The phenomenal success of Muvi Cinemas as a homegrown theatre brand has inspired us to move into original Arabic feature film production. The cash we’re investing in Muvi Studios will be used to produce a slate of top-quality Arabic movies and we aim to release a minimum of three films within the next 12 months.”
