Visit Malta is thrilled to introduce the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS), set to open its doors in October 2024. Nestled within Valletta’s historic fortifications, this 90,000 sq. ft campus, designed by IPO Studio in Florence, promises to be a cultural gem, seamlessly blending contemporary architecture with Malta’s rich heritage. MICAS’s mission is clear – to bring diverse, groundbreaking art exhibitions to the forefront, engaging both local and international communities while celebrating Malta’s unique history and geography.
The museum will present three exhibitions a year. The programme for the first year will be formally announced in June this year and will reflect the institution’s commitment to internationalism as well as to Malta’s contemporary culture. MICAS’s mission is to produce diverse and ground-breaking art exhibitions, events and educational programming that engages international and local communities and celebrates the singular history and geography of Malta.
MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and the Arts sector that will be realised through state funded restoration of historical fortifications.
