Next re-opens online, warehouse and distribution operations

Next is partly re-opening its online business today after implementing an extensive range of new covid-19 related safety measures. The move also follows consultation with Next’s staff and the USDAW shop workers union.

Next announced on 26 March that it had temporarily closed its online business alongside its warehousing and distribution operations.

Today the retailer said it will open its online business in a very limited way by only offering products in categories that customers most need such as children’s wear and selected homewares. Other product ranges may be added at a later date.

To help maintain social distancing measures, Next said it plans to begin selling in low volumes so that only a small number of team members will work in each warehouse at any one time.

However, this means that it will only take orders for the number of items it believes can be picked safely on any given day. Once it has reached capacity, the retailer will stop taking orders and convert the website to ‘browse only’ until the following morning.
