Nike to Concentrate on Direct to Consumer

It has been reported that Nike will close nine of its wholesale accounts in an effort to concentrate their efforts on its direct to consumer channels.

The wholesale accounts that will be closed include: City Blue, VIM, EbLens, Belk, Dillard’s, Fred Meyer, Bob’s Stores, Boscov’s and Zappos. The move comes as Nike focuses its effort on its Nike Direct strategy, doubling down on its Nike Digital operations and concentrating on its own stores as well as a smaller number of partners. The closures are in line with the retailer’s future goals, namely putting more emphasis on its owned stores, including opening 200 new smaller global stores.

“Nike has a bold vision to create the marketplace of the future, one closely aligned with what consumers want and need. As part of our recently announced Consumer Direct Acceleration strategy, we are doubling down on our approach with Nike Digital and our owned stores, as well as a smaller number of strategic partners who share our vision to create a consistent, connected and modern shopping experience.” commented a Nike spokesperson.
