France’s Polène has opened a flagship store in Japan, opting for the nation’s capital of Tokyo to make its Asia retail debut.
Located on Tokyo’s prestigious Omotesandō Avenue, the new Poléne Japan store spans two floors and “combines Japanese art, contemporary design and nature-related inspirations to create a serene atmosphere,” according to a statement from the accessories brand via its social media.
Inside the store, large bay windows let natural light infuse the space, alongside walls in natural hues, while a staircase designed to portray “flowing water” connects to Japanese oak flooring. Among the decor, bespoke leather lamps riffing on pebbles add to the bringing-nature-indoors aesthetic, while dark tables and seating in Urushi lacquer smooth the furniture shaped like dark-blue rocks.
Founded in Paris in 2016 by three siblings, Mathieu, Antoine, and Elsa Mothay, Polène creates minimalist leather goods in unique shapes made in Ubrique, Spain.
