Dollar General is moving forward with a new strategy for growth having spent the last couple of years testing the Popshelf concept.
This concept caters to suburban shoppers with higher incomes but sells most items for less than five dollars. A unique assortment of products lines the shelves and the whole concept is designed to be a treasure hunt that keeps shoppers coming back.
Chief Merchandising Officer Emily Taylor said Popshelf can draw spending-conscious shoppers by offering items that don’t cause guilt. “The fact that we have such great value across a lot of these categories gives our customers at Popshelf an opportunity to really treat themselves at a time where they may have a difficult time doing that in other locations,” she said.
Moving forward, the company plans to double its store count to 300, with plans to reach 1,000 locations across the country.
