The French department store chain has announced that it will close some of its operations in France.
Iconinc French department store Printemps was founded in 1865 and is one of the oldest department stores in France. The retailer attracts high-end luxury brands such as Burberry and Gucci and focuses on beauty, lifestyle, fashion, accessories and men’s wear. The iconic department stores are particularly popular with tourists, particularly at its Paris Haussmann flagship store location.
The Coronavirus global pandemic has hit retailer’s particularly hard and government-enforced lockdowns and limited international travel remains meaning that footfall remains much lower than accustomed to. This has led to four of the group’s 19 department stores shuttering including one in Le Havre and another in Strasbourg.
The announcement means that 450 jobs are now at risk, including shop assistants and headquarters staff.
