Record amount of new Covid-19 cases announced in Iran

There were over 3,500 new cases of Coronavirus infections on Thursday in Iran, the most in one day since the pandemic started.

After reaching a near two-month low in early May, infections have been on a rising trajectory in the Islamic republic, which is currently home to the deadliest outbreak of the disease in the Middle East.

“Not respecting social distancing and public and personal hygiene rules, along with undertaking unnecessary travel, can have irreparable consequences,” warned an announcement running on repeat on the state television information channel.

These new cases take the total of positive tests to 164,270 since the first cases were announced in February.
