Uniqlo to open Mitsui Outlet Park

On 10 April, the Japanese fast-fashion retailer Uniqlo will open its largest store to date at Mitsui Outlet Park, which is putting the finishing touches on its recent refurbishments.

Combining retail space amusement facilities, the Uniqlo Park Yokohama store will feature slides, jungle gyms, interactive spaces and greenery for families to rest and play. Hosting sister brand GU in the same location, Uniqlo’s sales area will comprise 2,182sq m and GU’s 1,818sq m.

The opening will go ahead despite the turbulent times the world is currently facing, and this is not the only one. The retailer also has plans to open three large stores in Tokyo’s metropolitan area in April-May, as these were originally going to be launched with the aim of strengthening its presence in the area ahead of the now postponed Tokyo Olympics 2020.

At the end of February this year, Uniqlo operated 811 stores in Japan with a strategic focus in China and other Asian countries.
