Sainsbury’s to Make Job Cuts

The company has said that around 3500 of their colleagues could lose their jobs.

The grocery giant has revealed plans to put food back at the heart of Sainsbury’s by lowering prices on over 1500 every day grocery items, focusing on product innovation and brining new and exclusive products to their customers.

As part of this plan to focus predominantly on food to best serve their customers, Sainsbury’s have announced that they intend to cut around 420 standalone Argos stores by March 2024. This will leave around 100 standalone Argos store estates, however the company does intend to add more Argos collection points in Sainsbury’s. The plans also stipulate that the brand intends to close meat, fish and deli counters as a result of lower customer demand.

Sainsbury’s Chief Executive Simon Roberts commented: “We are talking to colleagues today where the changes we are announcing impact their roles. Whilst we will aim to find alternative roles for as many colleagues as possible, around 3500 of our colleagues could lose their roles. We have an excellent track record of finding alternative roles for colleagues and we will do everything possible to find alternative roles.”
