The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has the third highest number of hotel rooms under construction, after China and the US.
Saudi Arabia has more hotel rooms under construction than any other country in the Middle East and Africa, according to data published by hospitality analysts STR. The Kingdom’s expanding hospitality sector is evident in the construction pipeline, with almost double the number of hotel rooms being built compared to the UAE.
It sits behind only China and the US in terms of the number of hotel rooms currently being built.
In total there are more than 119,500 hotel rooms under construction in the MEA region, as of March 2023, a decline of 5.8 per cent on the previous year. Saudi Arabia leads the way, with 42,033 rooms under construction. The UAE follows, with 22,324 hotel rooms currently under construction. Despite the decline in construction, the MEA hotel pipeline outlook remains healthy, with almost 250,000 hotel rooms currently under contract.
