Miral has announced that the region’s first dedicated marine research and rescue centre, Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue has opened in Abu Dhabi.
Located on Yas Island and developed by SeaWorld and Miral, the venue includes a rescue clinic, a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, over 25 rescue and rehabilitation pools, laboratories and an aquaculture facility. It also features a dry classroom and a wet classroom which will be used to educate the next generation of marine biologists.
The centre, which is the first of its kind outside of the US, will be overseen by a team of professional scientists, zoologists and experts in marine animal care, research and rescue. The team will help sick, injured and orphaned marine animals in the Arabian Gulf and provide rehabilitation before returning them to their natural habitats.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral, said: “This is a cornerstone in the emirate’s journey of education and conservation, inspiring the next generation of marine scientists to learn more about Abu Dhabi’s impactful long-term vision or protecting our marine wildlife and their habitats.”
