Shinsegae to Open Second Department Store in Daejeon

Occupying an area of 284,224sq m, this will be the company’s third-largest store to date in South Korea.

Shinsegae is the second-largest department store retailer in Korea with 12 branches across the country. This, which will be the company’s second location in Daejeon, will be called Shinsegae Art & Science and will consists of a epartment store and the 193-storey Shinsegae Expo Tower complete with an aquarium, science exhibition spaces, a multiplex cinemas and an indoor sports theme park.

The tower will also be home to a five-star hotel called Onoma, which will be the first hotel launched by a department store. Both the store and the tower were designed by internationally renowned designers and architects including Rockwell.

“In five years, we have opened a new branch in Daejeon. The space is filled with brands specialised for the region based on the big data we accumulated over the years. We expect the department store to become a landmark representing the central region of South Korea,” said Cha Jeong-ho, CEO of Shinsegae International.
