Shoe Museum Hauenstein Reopens

The German Shoe Museum Hauenstein can be visited again after a year and a half of renovation. The official reopening of the Bauhaus building took place last week with around 130 invited guests from business, politics and culture.

Among the guests were Angelika Glöckner, Member of Parliament, Theo Wieder, Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate District Council, Secretary of State for Culture Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck and many other personalities from the region.

“The conversion was a long process. But it was really worth it. The result fills me with pride and joy,” says Hauenstein’s Mayor Michael Zimmermann and at the same time chairman of the German Shoe Museum Foundation Council in his welcoming address.

Extensively renovated and redesigned, the museum houses a magnificent permanent exhibition on three floors, which focuses on the shoe from design to craftsmanship and modern technologies.

“The new concept deliberately does not only include machines, leather and industrial topics. Fashion and the trade in shoes, which means not least the people in our industry, come into focus and are given the importance they deserve,” says Carl- August Seibel, Chairman of the Foundation Board of the Museum.
