The Japanese beauty brand has unveiled designs for its flagship store which is located in Omotesando, Tokyo and resembles a giant makeup box.
The launch of the flagship store pays homage to the brand’s very first beauty boutique which was also located in Omotesando, and was opened in 1983. Called ‘Shu Tokyo Makeup Box’, the global flagship boasts an exterior that was inspired by Founder Shu Uemura’s jet-black makeup box. The interior features a giant Japanese-style kokeshi doll which presents the tagline – ‘play, create, master your own beauty’.
Spanning four storeys, beauty enthusiasts can browse a selection of cosmetics and skincare products including a number of limited-edition items that will be sold exclusively at the store. The store also houses a communication space which features an interactive experience that enhances self-expression.
The flagship will open on April 16 and to celebrate the launch, the brand will collaborate with calligrapher Manmi who will introduce artwork that depicts the characters ‘Hide’ utilising the brand’s signature colours of red, black and white.
