Philippine shopping mall chain SM Supermalls has reported a 21 per cent surge in first-quarter foot traffic, with more than four million daily visitors compared to 3.3 million in the same period last year.
Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls, attributed the increase to higher demand for leisure and dining. “The increase in foot traffic reflects our steadfast commitment to meeting our customers’ daily needs and wants,” said Tan.
The shopping mall chain, owned by SM Prime Holdings, says its food tenants now occupy 30 per cent of leased mall space, up from 10 per cent a decade ago, while non-food tenants, including entertainment, account for 50 per cent.
During the quarter, the company also introduced new attractions for its stores, such as the Space & Time Cube+ at S Maison and Cosplay City at SM City Fairview.
“Our goal is to create lasting memories through dynamic destinations that complement traditional shopping,” Tan concluded.
