The brand new ibis Budget Sheffield Centre – St Mary’s Gate Hotel has finally been unlocked and is set to open on Monday 27th July 2020, as the nationwide lockdown gradually lifts.
The new build city centre hotel was originally due to launch at the end of March, just as the lockdown was imposed across the country. The designers’ Whittam Cox Architects work was completed; the stylish Chill #10A Artisan Café & Bar was finished and the cleverly designed ibis Budget ‘Nest’ bedrooms, which can be adapted for single occupants or families including the dog!, were ready for business and raring to go.

“We have been planning this launch for a long time,” said General Manager Dave Amans. “Like Sleeping Beauty, the hotel went in to lockdown and was put to rest until now. Finally, after much anticipation, we are excited to bring this new concept to Sheffield and share what has been our secret for many months.”
Nick Fenton, Associate Director at Whittam Cox Architects added, “We’re delighted that this prominent scheme in the heart of the city is now opening to the public. The completion of this final phase concludes the original aspiration to create a high quality mixed use development for Sheffield’s city centre.”
