Battersea Power Station is hosting a 1950s-inspired hair and beauty pop-up ‘Power Parlour’ in Turbine Hall B between 21st and 29th October.
The pop-up is part of the ‘Behind the Bricks’ festival which marks one year since the Power Station opened its doors to the public for the first time in history.
The ‘Power Parlour’ will transport its visitors back to the 1950s, when the second half of the Grade II* listed Power Station was complete, through mid-century interiors and unique hair and beauty makeovers. The 1950s were a defining decade for style, the rock and roll revolution was in full swing, with pompadours and quiffs the hairstyles of choice and at the same time, Hollywood’s Golden Age was going strong, popularising Hollywood glamour.
Visitors to the pop-up will be able to explore beauty trends of the decade, with Blush + Blow’s London blow dry menu, including bold classic Hollywood glamour styles to chic 50’s waves. MAC Cosmetics will also be on-hand to give the visitors the ultimate 50s glow-up using their iconic range of beauty products including the famous Ruby Woo red lipstick. London barbers R.W. Wolf will offer treatments and styling services to ensure every customer leaves the salon feeling like a 50s movie star.
Completing the experience, 1950s-inspired all-day bar, Control Room B, will be providing thirst-quenching cocktails and non-alcohol cocktails for customers to enjoy in partnership with Hendrick’s Gin and Atopia Non-Alcoholic Spirit.
To mark one-year since opening to the public, Battersea Power Station is hosting a nine-day ‘Behind The Bricks’ festival where visitors can discover more about the London landmark’s rich heritage and transformation into a new riverside destination. In addition to the ‘Power Parlour’, the festival includes expert panel talks, guided tours with special access to the Power Station’s beautifully restored Art Deco Control Room A and a variety of family-friendly activities.
