Sweetgreen to Trial Drive-Thru

It is expected that the salad restaurant chain will trial the drive-thru model in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

The move comes as Sweetgreen looks to expand beyond cities into suburban America and consumer behaviour continues to change, represented in the 24 per cent increase in drive-thru orders across the restaurant industry through the month of October. The Highlands Ranch location is expected to feature a drive-thru lane and will allow customers to order from parking spots via intercom boxes.

Due to the different features from a traditional drive-thru restaurant, the company are calling this location a drive-in. Customers have the option to eat their salads at the restaurant or inside the comfort of their own cars and there’s a window that allows drive-thru customers to view their food being prepared in the kitchen area from their cars.

Chief Concept Officer, Nic Jammet, commented: “During Covid, our work on this accelerated. Now’s our time. Our customers’ behaviour is shifting even more rapidly… and as we move into more of these suburban areas and opening new cities and neighbourhoods, this just seemed like something we should really focus on.”
