The ethical beauty retailer is working with MyGroup and Scan2Recycle to bring its Return, Recycle and Repeat scheme to its 225 stores across the UK.
The scheme intends to process cosmetic and bathroom product packaging that is considered hard-to-recycle and therefore will not be taking by kerbside recycling collections. Each item is quarantined before being washed and shredded into a plastic mix that is hearted and pressed to create 100 per cent recycled plastic boards. These boards will then be used by ReWorked to make products including furniture, shelters, bin and shop fittings.
Linda Campbell, Managing Director UK & Ireland, The Body Shop, says: “Our founder Anita Roddick pioneered the philosophy that business can be a force for good, and this belief is still The Body Shop’s driving force. We’re constantly looking at ways to develop and improve our sustainability and create positive change.”
The new Return, Recycle and Repeat scheme will sit alongside a new in-store refill scheme that is currently being rolled out to stores across the country.
