New York City’s iconic street food concept has big expansion plans in Canada after debuting in Western Canada recently.
US-based Fransmart does the franchising for the brand worldwide and has confirmed that The Halal Guys have one location in Calgary, two in Toronto metro and one set to launch in Vancouver. Furthermore it’s about to sell the franchise rights for Edmonton and another group is set to sign up for five units in suburban Toronto.
Dan Rowe, CEO of Fransmart, commented: “We’re going to go after the five or six biggest metro markets – Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton – and then we’re going to see. We’re not sure but probably 40 or 50 total locations across Canada.”
The fast casual restaurant franchise began as halal carts on the southeast and southwest corners of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. Since it became exceptionally popular with customers, new locations both food carts and storefront, have been added throughout New York and around the world.
