UK-Based JD Sports Launches Expansion into Canada

The global sports fashion retailer is expanding into the Canadian market with plans confirmed that it will open its first Canadian store this month.

The company began its operations in 1981 and now it is present in 20 territories around the world with nearly 900 stores in markets such as Ireland, Singapore, South Korea, Portugal, Germany, France, the UK and the US. Now the brand is opening its first store in Canada at CF Fairview Mall in Toronto, shortly after it will launch at Guildford Mall in Metro Vancouver and in Spring 2022, JD Sports will open at West Edmonton Mall.

Gary Ochi, CEO, JD Sports Canada, said: “We’ve always identified Canada as a market that we wanted to enter. There are some great brands and a strong following for our market in this country, and we feel that we can complement and add to what’s already in the market.”

JD Sports is described by Ochi as a sports fashion retailer of branded sports and casual wear, combining a selection of iconic global brands including Nike, adidas, Puma and The North Face with private labels such as Pink Soda and Supply & Demand.
