The service will give customers free shipping on thousands of items such as produce and groceries.
In an effort to compete with Amazon Prime, Walmart has announced Walmart + their own membership service which will cost $98 a year, competitively priced in comparison to Amazon Prime’s price of $119. However, unlike Amazon Prime, Walmart + customers will have to spend a minimum of $35 to qualify for free delivery.
As many as 160,000 items will qualify for free shipping directly from stores to customers’ homes. Walmart hopes that this will help keel food fresh for longer for their customers with costs lower than competitors. Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s Chief Customer Office has commented: “We are developing a product that this is grounded in meeting customers’ needs.”
The Walmart + membership will be available from September 15.
