Wendy’s to Open First UK Branch

The US restaurant chain, which closed all of its British restaurants in 1999, is set to open two new branches in Reading and Oxford.

The burger chain is the third largest in the world, after McDonald’s and Burger King and is known for its spicy nuggets and square burgers. Currently, the brand operates 6,700 locations across 30 countries and offers items including hamburgers, breakfast burgers and pretzel burgers along with the crispy panko fish sandwich, bacon, egg & swiss croissants and the jalapeno popper sandwich.

A Wendy’s spokesperson commented: “I can confirm that Wendy’s will be opening in the United Kingdom in the first half of this year. Our first location will be in Reading and I can also confirm that we will open a restaurant in Oxford. We are also exploring additional opportunities in the London area. The brand is excited to enter the UK with company owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the UK.”

It is not yet known how many jobs the new restaurants will create within the regions.
